By Lauryn Lee Staff Writer Proposition 30 passed by a narrow margin in the November election. Taxes will be raised from 7.25% to 7.5%, with the increased revenue funding public education. According to a Los Angeles Times report,  the new measure will prevent a previously-scheduled $5.4 billion cut.
